Tobias Hantmann
Staying with the Pictures
01.12.2018 – 17.02.2019
Tobias Hantmann challenges visual perception. His choice of media confuses, particularly in his handling of velour carpets, onto which he draws complex, mostly figurative motifs by raising up and pressing down the pile. Within the interplay of staging, material and lighting, these works make their own conditions a theme by asking questions about the status of the image and the relationship between image content and form. Furthermore, a new work complex by the artist will be shown for the first time in this exhibition.
Tobias Hantmann, born in 1976 in Kempten, lives in Düsseldorf and Berlin. He studied painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. He teaches as a guest professor at the Kunstakademie Münster, since 2015.
