Published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König, Cologne 2025.

208 pages with 145 color illustrations.
Text in German & English.
Price: €35.00
This catalog follows previous books on Raphaela Vogel published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König and provides an overview of the artist’s recent work. In her sculptural installations—both monumental and intricate—Vogel has developed a unique visual language.
Her works often incorporate musical and sound collages, as well as video films, embedded within complex sculptural and installation-based settings. Balancing between sensation and contemplation, narrative and subtext, and composed of both handmade and found materials, her works are infused with a rich array of social and cultural-historical references. Their intricate content resists a singular interpretation. This book centers on historical research and an exploration of spatial structures, locations, and architecture.

Mary-Audrey Ramirez
(2024)
FORCED AMNESIA
Editors: Nadia Ismail / Kunsthalle Giessen, Kevin Muhlen / Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain German/English
22,5 × 28 cm, 240 pages, 135 color images
published May 2024 with DISTANZ Verlag
ISBN978-3-95476-642-0
Price 38,00 €
Taking inspiration from digital technologies and sceneries from computer games, the artist Mary-Audrey Ramirez (b. Luxembourg, Luxembourg, 1990; lives and works in Berlin) creates immersive worlds that spring from the cosmos of her inner mind. Her installations make the viewers feel like they have been transported to inside a game. To realize them, she also taps into the creative potential of artificial intelligence. As Ramirez sees it, such collaboration between human and machine lets both sides support each other in their creative processes. The blending of fact and fiction and the ongoing migration of the digital into our world are integral components of her practice. Reading as voyages straight into her nightly dreams, her works are suffused with a dystopian beauty, with flashes here and there of a subtle sense of humor that lighten the impact of her motifs and provide relief from the powerful sense of gloom.
Forced Amnesia, the artist’s second comprehensive monograph (XOXO, Winter Is Coming, DISTANZ, 2020), is released on occasion of her exhibitions at Kunsthalle Giessen and Casino Luxembourg. Essays by Nadia Ismail, Damien Mecheri, and Ji-Hun Kim analyze Ramirez’s practice. With a piece of creative writing contributed by the artist Julia Scher.

The publication encompasses different but interconnected themes of folklore that have their origins in Hessian traditions, as well as historical connections that extend from New Zealand to Europe and the United Kingdom. The texts illustrate the artistic research process of his work.

These community rituals provide a focus for the aesthetics of the material in the project. Straw, eggs, leaves, tobacco, cameras and sound recorders serve as artistic motifs in the resulting exhibition at the Kunsthalle Gießen in cooperation with the Oberhessisches Museum (07.09.–17.11.2019).

Published by Verlag für moderne Kunst
Price 35 € (+ Package)
ISBN 978-3-903439-42-9

Eisenberger brings flora and fauna into the exhibition space, dissolving the static separation between inside and outside, between saleable art and the ephemeral. The publication also features works created by the artist as of 2013 in and with nature.

For the exhibition at the Kunsthalle Giessen, Christian Eisenberger developed works that deliberately focus on and reinterpret the 1960s Land Art movement. Eisenberger brings flora and fauna into the exhibition space thereby dissolving the static division between inside and outside, saleable art and the ephemeral. As part of his solo exhibition, he created an edition of leaf-cutting ants.

Teboho Edkins LP (2020)
„INITIATION“
The vinyl record INITIATION by Teboho Edkins brings sound recordings together that Edkins made while filming Coming of Age and Initiation in Lesotho. Both films have been screened at international film festivals, where they received several awards. The short film INITIATION has also been shown in exhibitions, e.g. at the Kunsthalle Giessen and the Berlinische Galerie. The album centres around the vocals of local boys returning to their home villages after initiation rites. High up in the mountains, they spend five months in remote, unknown places. The rituals that are performed are known to this day only by those who have participated in them. However, not all of the boys survive these secret initiation rites. Those who return are then grown men. When entering his respective home village, the corresponding boy sings in a very low voice. For the young Mosaku, whose brother Retabile is returning from the mountains and singing, the spectacle is frightening and alienating. The young men’s songs are framed by conversations between the brothers as well as with the filmmaker, who talks to them about their notions of identity and adulthood.
